Bottle Description
Macallan Easter Elchies Black 2019 is a limited whisky from The Macallan Distillery in Scotland. The whisky honours Easter Elchies House. This house stands on the Macallan estate. Because of this link, the whisky reflects the history of the distillery. Macallan matured the whisky in oak casks. The casks shaped the spirit during ageing. As a result, the whisky gained colour and flavour. Most Macallan whisky is not peated. However, this release includes gentle smoke. The smoke remains light and balanced. At the same time, the whisky keeps the rich Macallan style. Character of Macallan Easter Elchies Black 2019 On the nose, sweet aromas appear first. Honey and vanilla create a soft opening. Afterwards, light smoke begins to appear. Meanwhile, citrus notes add freshness. Hints of dried fruit may also appear. Across the palate, the whisky feels smooth and rich. Sweet malt flavours arrive first. Afterwards, spice and oak develop slowly. At the same time, gentle smoke adds depth. As the whisky opens, deeper notes appear. Dark chocolate and dried fruit may develop. Finally, soft smoke and spice remain in the finish. Easter Elchies Black Series The Easter Elchies Black series celebrates the Macallan estate. Easter Elchies House stands at the centre of the grounds. The 2019 edition is the second release. The distillery released the final edition in 2020. Only three bottles exist in the series. Because of this, collectors often seek these bottles. Each bottle also features distinctive packaging. The dark design reflects the name of the series. Collectability Collectors value Macallan Easter Elchies Black 2019 for several reasons. First, the bottle belongs to a small series. Second, the whisky shows a rare Macallan style. The gentle smoke adds a different character. At the same time, the whisky keeps classic Macallan richness. For enthusiasts, the whisky offers balance and depth. For collectors, the bottle represents a notable Macallan release
Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, the Elchies Distillery as it was known initially, did not become the Macallan-Glenlivet in name until 1892. Since then, it has undergone massive expansion with Edrington and William Grant & Sons combining forces in 1999 to purchase Highland Distillers for £601 million. By then, the reputation of the distillery for its sherry-led style of whisky was already firmly in place. The new ownership model has enabled the distillery to produce new ranges, reach out to new demographics and establish itself as an international brand of quality. Bottles are Macallan are increasingly sought after for their commodity value and not the contents, which often are of high quality. Moving to a new distillery site in recent years, will in the long-term, allow Macallan to produce more and if needed, the old distillery sits idle despite being capable of producing 11 million litres before it closed in 2018.
