Benromach Cask No.1 2018 20th Anniversary Single Cask is a rare release from Benromach Distillery in Scotland. The distillery released this special bottling to mark twenty years since Benromach reopened in 1998. The whisky comes from Cask No.1, the very first cask filled after the distillery resumed production following many years of closure.
This historic cask carries a unique story. During the reopening ceremony on 15 October 1998, HRH Prince Charlesvisited the distillery and signed the cask. Because of this moment, the cask holds special importance in the modern history of Benromach. The whisky itself was distilled in August 1998 and filled into a first-fill sherry butt. It matured slowly in the warehouse for two decades.
Benromach bottled the whisky at cask strength on 21 August 2018, exactly 20 years after the cask was first filled. This careful maturation created a whisky with depth, balance and rich sherry influence. Benromach Cask No.1 Flavour Profile Rich aromas appear first on the nose. Initially, dried fruit and sweet sherry notes develop. Soon afterwards, honey and dark chocolate appear. Meanwhile, light smoke adds depth to the aroma. Across the palate, the whisky feels rich and layered. Sweet malt appears first. Afterwards, flavours of caramel, dried fruit and spice develop slowly. At the same time, the sherry cask influence adds warmth and sweetness.
As the whisky opens further, deeper notes of toasted oak and gentle smoke appear. Finally, warm spice and fruit remain in the finish. The finish feels long, smooth and elegant. Benromach Cask No.1 and the Distillery Revival The Benromach Cask No.1 2018 20th Anniversary Single Cask celebrates the rebirth of the distillery. Benromach reopened in 1998 after years of silence.
The owners aimed to revive traditional Speyside whisky production using small-scale methods. Because this whisky came from the first cask filled after reopening, it represents the beginning of Benromach’s modern era. Limited Edition Release This bottling was extremely limited. Only 575 bottles were produced from Benromach Cask No.1.
The distillery sold the release exclusively through the Benromach Visitor Centre. In addition, the distillery donated all profits from the release to charitable causes. Because of its historic significance, rarity and charitable connection, this bottling holds strong appeal for whisky collectors and enthusiasts
