Bladnoch 2022 Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky Cask Oloroso Sherry Hogshead

A distinctive opportunity to acquire a 2022 peated single malt Scotch whisky cask distilled at Bladnoch Distillery, one of Scotland’s historic Lowland distilleries.

Produced under the Kirkinner name, this peated Bladnoch spirit offers something notably different from the distillery’s more familiar unpeated style. The combination of peated Lowland spirit and Oloroso sherry maturation gives this cask a particularly appealing profile for collectors, whisky enthusiasts and those looking for casks with a strong point of difference.

Maturing in an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead, the whisky brings together two highly sought-after characteristics: smoky, peated spirit and the rich influence of sherry-seasoned oak. As the whisky matures, the cask has the potential to develop layers of dried fruit, warming spice, dark sweetness and oak alongside the underlying peat smoke and malt character.

Why This Cask Stands Out

Peated spirit from Bladnoch is considerably less commonly encountered than its traditional Lowland style, giving Kirkinner an interesting identity of its own. Combined with maturation in an Oloroso hogshead, this creates a cask with an immediately recognisable story and a flavour profile that should appeal to fans of both peated and sherry-matured Scotch whisky.

The 2022 vintage also provides the opportunity to acquire the whisky relatively early in its maturation journey, allowing a future owner to continue ageing the cask and decide when it has reached their preferred level of maturity.

For buyers looking beyond standard bourbon-matured young whisky, this cask offers an attractive combination of distillery provenance, peat, sherry wood and age-development potential.

Peat Smoke • Dried Fruits • Dark Chocolate • Raisins • Rich Malt • Toasted Oak • Warming Spice • Caramel • Nutty Sherry • Lingering Smoky Sweetness

Peated Bladnoch spirit released under the Kirkinner name offers an interesting point of difference within the cask market. The combination of Lowland distillery provenance, peated spirit and Oloroso sherry maturation gives the cask a distinctive story and broad appeal to collectors, independent bottlers and enthusiasts of smoky, sherry-influenced Scotch whisky.

With peated spirit representing a less commonly encountered style from Bladnoch, Kirkinner provides buyers with an alternative to more widely available young Scotch casks. Its 2022 vintage also leaves considerable scope for further maturation, allowing the peat and rich Oloroso influence to develop additional depth and complexity over time.

Bladnoch Distillery is one of Scotland’s historic Lowland single malt whisky distilleries, situated near the banks of the River Bladnoch in Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway. Founded in 1817, Bladnoch has a long history of whisky production and is recognised as one of the southernmost Scotch whisky distilleries.

Traditionally associated with an elegant and approachable Lowland style, Bladnoch also produces peated spirit, offering a noticeably different character from its classic unpeated single malt.

Peated spirit from the distillery can appear under the Kirkinner name in the independent cask market. This provides buyers with the opportunity to own whisky distilled at Bladnoch while distinguishing the cask from whisky carrying full Bladnoch naming rights.

Kirkinner’s peated character can develop notes of smoke, malt, earthiness and spice, while maturation in an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead can introduce additional layers of dried fruit, sweetness, spice and oak.

The combination of Bladnoch provenance, peated spirit and Oloroso sherry maturation makes Kirkinner an interesting alternative to more commonly encountered Lowland whisky casks.
