Cask Description
Cask Overview This Tamdhu whisky cask for sale was distilled in April 2022 in Speyside. The spirit first matured in an ex-bourbon cask. Bourbon casks build classic whisky flavours. For example, they add vanilla, honey and soft oak spice. At the same time, bourbon wood keeps the distillery character clear. In March 2026, the whisky moved into a Palo Cortado sherry hogshead. As a result, the whisky may gain richer flavour as it matures. At this stage the spirit shows a bright and fresh profile. The whisky shows green apple, pear and light citrus. Meanwhile, the bourbon wood adds vanilla cream, honeycomb and soft caramel. Distillery Character Tamdhu is a respected Speyside distillery. The distillery focuses on sherry cask maturation. Because of this, many collectors value Tamdhu whisky. Young Tamdhu spirit is known for fresh fruit flavours. It often shows apple, pear and gentle citrus. Meanwhile, sherry casks add deeper layers of flavour. Palo Cortado casks may bring notes of dried fruit, nuts and warm spice. Over time, these flavours combine to create a balanced Speyside whisky. Maturation Potential This whisky is still young. However, it already shows good development. Young spirit often benefits from longer ageing. As a result, the whisky may gain depth and complexity over time. The flavour may develop notes of dried fruit, toasted nuts and light spice. At the same time, the bright fruit character should remain. Investment Potential Interest in whisky casks continues to grow worldwide. At the same time, stocks of older whisky continue to fall. Because of this, younger casks often attract long-term investors. This Tamdhu cask offers several options. For example, the owner may hold the cask for five to eight years. Alternatively, the owner may sell the cask as it gains age. Another option is single cask bottling. As a result, collectors may show strong interest. With a 2022 distillation, Palo Cortado maturation, and a fruit-driven spirit, this Tamdhu cask offers strong long-term potential.

Re-racked from ex-bourbon into a 1st fill Palo Cortado hogshead, this cask moves from bright Speyside fruit into a more structured, nutty and complex sherry style.
Nose
Elegant and layered.
Fresh orchard fruits — green apple and pear — now sit alongside toasted almonds, orange peel and light walnut oil. Hints of caramelised sugar, dried apricot and subtle spice begin to emerge, with Palo Cortado’s hallmark dry nuttiness giving refinement rather than heavy sweetness.
Palate
Structured and developing depth.
The creamy vanilla and honey from the bourbon phase are now wrapped in hazelnut, light toffee, citrus marmalade and gentle dried fruits. Unlike PX, the influence is drier and more savoury — showing roasted nuts, polished oak and warming spice, while the Tamdhu spirit keeps it lifted and fruit-forward.
Finish
Medium to long, clean and sophisticated.
Lingering almond skin, orange zest, soft cinnamon and elegant oak dryness, with sweetness balanced by a refined, slightly saline edge.

For your April 2022 Palo Cortado Hogshead, this background supports a narrative of:
A quality Speyside distillery with strong maturation credentials and growing premium positioning — offering solid long-term maturation potential.

Founded in 1897, Tamdhu sits on the banks of the River Spey in the heart of Speyside. The distillery was originally established by a consortium of whisky blenders who wanted a reliable, high-quality malt for their blends — a testament to the spirit’s consistency and weight from the outset.
Today, Tamdhu is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, who repositioned the brand as a premium single malt with a strong focus on maturation quality.
Water source: Tamdhu Spring (fed from underground springs near the River Spey)
Still shape: Tall copper stills contributing to a refined, lighter spirit
Capacity: Approx. 4 million litres annually
