Bottle Description
Auchentoshan 32 Year Old 1979 is a rare single malt whisky from Auchentoshan Distillery in Scotland. Unlike most Scottish distilleries, Auchentoshan uses triple distillation. This process creates a lighter and smoother whisky style. Distillation took place in 1979. Long maturation followed afterwards. For thirty two years the spirit rested in oak casks. Oloroso sherry casks played an important role during this time. Sherry wood adds colour and rich flavour. As a result, the whisky developed depth and complexity. Collectors often value well aged single malt whisky. Long maturation can create layered aroma and refined character. Character of Auchentoshan 32 Year Old Rich aromas appear first on the nose. Dried fruit and sherry sweetness lead the aroma. Soon afterwards, hints of oak and soft spice develop. Meanwhile, citrus and honey add freshness. Across the palate, the whisky feels smooth and balanced. Sweet malt appears at the start. After that, dried fruit flavours develop slowly. Warm spice follows and adds depth. At the same time, oak structure supports the flavour. As the whisky opens, deeper notes emerge. Dark chocolate and toasted oak may develop. Finally, gentle spice remains in the finish. Oloroso Sherry Cask Maturation Oloroso sherry casks influence many famous whiskies. Rich dried fruit notes often come from these casks. Deep colour also develops during maturation. During long ageing, whisky slowly absorbs these flavours. Over time the spirit becomes richer and more complex. Because of this influence, sherry matured whisky attracts collectors. Many enthusiasts actively search for this style. Collectability Rare aged whiskies attract strong interest. This Blue Chip Auchentoshan 32 Year Old 1979 represents a notable Lowland release. Few whiskies reach this age while maintaining balance. Limited availability also increases demand. Enthusiasts appreciate the elegant Auchentoshan style. Smooth texture combines with sherry sweetness and oak spice. For collectors, the bottle represents an impressive aged expression from the distillery
Established in 1800 on the outskirts of Glasgow and near the Clyde river, Auchentoshan has always overcome adversity. Originally called Duntocher before changing its name in 1834 to Auchentoshan, before changing owners on a regular basis. Its most famous incident came in 1941 when it was partially destroyed during a German bombing raid. It is said that the pond at the distillery is a result of that event. Unlike many other Lowland distilleries that dispensed with triple distillation, Auchentoshan has continued to utilise this form. In the belief that it is core to the character of their whisky which is predominantly kept for single malt use and always unpeated. Under the ownership of Beam Suntory, the official range continues to expand with new offerings available across the world.
